Evidence has been found to suggest that people lived in Ražanac 100 000 years ago. Most of the prehistoric materials are kept in the archeological museum in Zadar.

The old mediaeval village of Ražanac was situated around the church of St. Andria, 1 km from today’s Ražanac. In 1507, a castle was built nearby, with the aim of offering protection from the Turks. Evidence of it can still be seen today. Around that fort, people built their houses and new church, and that is how Ražanac came into existence.

The church of ‘Gospa od Ružarija’ was built in the 16th century and has been destroyed several times since.

Ražanac is well known because of its dance 'kolo' - which is significant in world culture tradition.
